Student Police Cadet Project is a School based youth development initiative that trains High School Students to evolve as future leaders of a democratic society by inculcating good qualities within them such as respect for the law, discipline, civic sense, empathy for vulnerable section of society and resistance to social evils. The project also enable to youth to explore and to develop their innate capabilities their by empowering them to resist the growth of negative tendencies such as socials intolerance, substance abuse, deviant behaviour and anti-establishment violence. Equally, it strengthens within them commitment towards their family, the community, and the environment. An advisory committee functioning under the chairman ship of District Police Chief, the District Collector as patron of the project.
In each school two trained teachers are acting as Community Police Officer and Additional Community Police Officer respectively for facilitating SPC training. Two Drill Instructors (Police Personnel) are detailed from the nearby police station for supporting them in physical training and parade. The District Nodal Officer (a DySP nominated) and Assistant District Nodal Officer are monitoring the district level project activities as per the instructions of State Nodal Officer.
At present in Kannur Rural District there were 37 schools functioning in which two schools are in Higher Secondary Wing and 35 Schools are in High School Wing.In 37 Schools altogether 4312 cadets are getting training. In the district the project is controlled by the District Nodal Officer who is the DySP, District Narcotic Cell, and he is assisted by One Sub-Inspector as Assistant District Nodal Officer and by one civil police officer as project assistant
